Steve Chamberlin - Californian videogame developer set out on a quest to design and create his own 8-bit computer manually close to the designs of MOS Technology 6502 processor used in early video game consoles.
His homebrew CPU took 18 months to build, cost around $1,000 and connected by 1,253 wire pieces altogether.
He calls this painstaking artwork as the Big Mess of Wires or BMOW and display it doing an interactive chess demo at the 4th annual Maker Faire this year. More details on the link below on wired(dot)com.
