Alco Web Design Interview

By Interviewer at 06/08/08 20:43

Name of your website?

Alco Web Design

Your name?

Alain Houle

Your Location (city, etc)

Greenville

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We specialize in affordable website design and hosting services for small business owners interested by an inexpensive yet professional presence on the web.

Our websites are elegant, functional, affordable, and they look great!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I was bored at work and was looking for additional challenges. Alco Web Design is my own small business.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I have been designing websites since 1999 after creating a 400+ pages intranet website for my employer, a well known Fortune company. I still have my day job but I also work with small companies interested to establish a simple yet professional presence on the web.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Alco. First two letters of my first name and first two letters of 'company"

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I create simple yet professional looking websites for small businesses. I have no employees and do not want any. I do honnest and affordable work.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Retire from my day job 5 years earlier and split my time between fishing and website design. Then eventually pass the business to my kids.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I am pretty happy with the balance but I am looking for a bit more business, not too much.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would not change. I want a small business where I make all decisions.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No. I have to control the growth.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Advertizing.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search engines and word or mouth.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Running as expected.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I had the website and the business for about 10 years and I want to keep it another 20.

What is your website address?

Alco Web Design
